kOsmO the mOOse is LOOse on Highway #7

HIS stOry  (HISTORY)

WHERE DID THE MOOSE HAIL FROM AND WHY IS HE UNCONVENTIONA?

The UnconVentionaL mOOse, aka kOsmO the mOOse, landed in Tweed in the spring of 2002.  Kosmo & Tracey

Fed up with the hustle and bustle of the Toronto financial scene, proprietor Tracey, aka crazy Tracey, purchased the Mohawk Trading Post on Highway 37. The tired Post was in need of a boost and in an effort to attract customers and give the shop a rustic fun flavour she bought a life size moose and plunked him smack dab in the middle of the front lawn.

Hence the birth of kOsmO.   That was just the beginning. ...

With help from family and friends she transformed the shop from offering primarily native gifts, moccasins and leather goods into a multi faceted shop with many new indoor and outdoor products including clothing, home décor and garden, canoes, kayaks and fishing tackle,  to name a few.

With a new image it was time for a name change.

Now offering an unconventional mix of products the term “unconventional moose” came to mind but was continuously pushed aside in search of something shorter – funky moose, moose country adventure store, moose ….

With pressure from Tracey’s mom who thought “unconventional” was the perfect word, Tracey finally buckled and registered the name  -- as usual, mom was right.  The Unconventional mOOse is a perfect name.  It prompts people to stop and ponder – hmmm just what the heck is in there and as an added bonus, it is memorable.

To add to the unconventionality of kOsmO, he has his very own inexperienced seamstress who attempts to outfit Kosmo for special occassions (check it out under kOsmO’s wardrobe – my favourite is the Easter bunny ears and cottontail) Coming Soon!

In the summer of 2005 an opportunity came available to relocate kOsmO to a spectacular setting on the shores of the Skootamatta.

The property was absolutely breath taking however the facilities were in severe need of an extra large helping of TLC.  Again family and friends pitched in and kOsmo packed his bags and all his goodies and hiked up the road to make a new home at the West Wind.

The West Wind property is full of history. ….a rundown motel and breakfast room with several out buildings, a home, a deserted boutique

So much for the relaxed quaint life in the Village of Tweed – a friendly little Village renowned for painted fire hydrants.  Life was about to get very very busy for crazy Tracey who thought she had escaped the hustle bustle!

WHAT’S NEW AT THE MOOSE

Since relocating to the West Wind Property in late 2005 we have fully renovated all motel units turning several of the units into long term accommodation (for full details and rates see ACCOMMoosDATIONS).

We also have two renovated motel units available for short-term or overnight accommodation.

The mOOse Butt Cabin located down by the river has been renovated and equipped with a kitchenette.  To make things more comfortable for kOsmo we created a quaint pond and waterfall surrounded by natural rock and shrubs.

This provides a spectacular setting for photos or just a pleasant spot to unwind after spending many dollars and much fun at the UnconVentionaL mOOse gift shop.

The gift boutique has also been upgraded with stunning hardwood floors and warm pine accents on the walls.  The shop has amazing views of the Skootamatta River.  An awesome setting for kOsmo’s unique collection of gifts, souvenirs and rustic décor.

kOsmO has collected an eclectic collection of interesting goodies - well worth a visit.  Our overall theme is wildlife/rustic décor with a primary focus on moose related items.  You’ll find everything from mOOse lamps to mOOse socks.

IF I REALLY LIKE THE MOOSE CAN I STAY LONGER OR MOVE-IN?

YES!  You can come and stay with the mOOse.  The mOOse now offers a variety of accommodation for overnight and long-term guests.

ALL UNITS ARE NON-SMOKING.
